Making Web Video Work for Your Business

If you want to make take advantage of web video, and make it work successfully, you have several options. From simple promotional videos on your own website to a viral information marketing campaign, web video can be used to augment products sales or drive targeted traffic directly.

Making Web Video Work for Your BusinessThe type of web video you produce will depend on your target audience and skills. Take a look at the following video types to determine which one, or combinations, will work best for you.

Instructional Videos

This is by far the most popular type of video. If you can produce quality instructional videos that show viewers how to do something specific, you will increase your exposure dramatically. For example, if you sell software you could — and should — make instructional video for your software. In fact, entire websites, such as www.vtc.com, are dedicated to software training videos, charging users monthly subscriptions to watch them.

Introductory Videos

A simple two or three minute video on your homepage that introduces viewers to your product or service can draw potential customers in. It can also save them valuable time and help build trust. The homepage video of Elance is a good example. Since viewers will mostly likely not see your product before purchasing, introducing yourself and product can help solidify sales.

Testimonials

If you have satisfied customers, why not let them tell you about it on video? Again, this can help build trust in your product, adding more trust to standard, written testimonials.

News and Interviews

If you have time, you can produce a short weekly video that provides a useful round-up of news in your field. Or, if you want to appeal to a local audience, provide local news or interviews with personalities in your community.

Viral Videos

If you can get one of your videos to go viral you could see a huge increase in traffic and sales. You will have to plan out a viral video because it will need to be different than a strictly information video. Successful viral videos are usually quirky, funny, or offbeat. These videos also require more marketing.

Whatever you do, don't produce a video because it sounds like a great thing to do. Plan ahead and make sure you're offering something valuable. Whichever video format you choose, make sure it's informative — informative enough that viewers will appreciate what you have to say and hopefully pass it on to others.
