Business Video Conferencing and Web 2.0

While audio conferencing has been around for many years, the development of internet technology has opened up new possibilities in video conferencing — revolutionizing business.

Business Video Conferencing and Web 2.0Video conferencing isn't new. It's been around in one form or another for a couple of decades. It's only been recently that the quality, and the bandwidth, has become good enough to make it a viable option.

Video conferencing is made possible by the digital compression of video and audio streams. And with today’s high internet speeds, the quality is high allowing meetings to take place in real time.

Business video conferencing offers an opportunity to significantly cut costs while fostering better personal relationships with clients and associates.

The ability to hold meetings with video means that, for many companies, business travel is becoming a thing of the past, saving significant money.

Web video conferencing offers opportunities for both point to point conferencing and multi point conferencing. Point to point conferencing takes place between two locations, while multi point conferencing can bring together people from any number of locations anywhere around the world.

All you need to participate in a video conference is a reasonably up to date computer with a microphone and webcam and a broadband internet connection. You will be able to see all of the other participants on the call on your screen and be able to send files and share information with them instantly via the internet.

While it doesn't allow for the personal interaction of a real face-to-face meeting, the visual nature of video conferencing is a significant step up from traditional audio conferencing. Participating in a video conference forces attendees to well, be nice.

The basis of Web 2.0 stems from social desires. People want to get to know other people they like, know, and trust. Social networking is bringing that possibility together via online communications.

Video conferencing, via the web, is simply an extension of Web 2.0 concepts. Users can share, collaborate, and earn trust with video conferencing. Video conferencing fits perfectly into the web and its movement towards a collaborative environment.
