When it comes to Web 2.0 promotions, there is no shortage of different ways to attract extra traffic to your website. The difficult part is finding the methods that work best for you. One handy method that often passes under the marketing radar is the use of classified websites to increase backlinks and help create organic traffic too.
There is little difference between the traditional classified ads you see in a newspaper and classifieds on the web, except that you can post your ads for free on all the websites we mention here.
Most people use classifieds as a way to increase backlinks. However, do not discount the organic traffic that it might gain you so spend some time writing your classifieds. Keep them catchy and try to come up with a good headline. Also, use your targeted keywords in classifieds as much as possible.
There are a number of websites you can put your classifieds on but Craigslist is a good place to start. This will take a bit of work as there are hundreds of regions and you should post five or ten different classifieds in a number of different regions. Aim for the more populated regions and try to include keywords in your classifieds in all cases.
Once you have a few good classifieds written you can reuse them throughout the internet on different classifieds websites. Add a few classified ads to Edgeio, again using keywords wherever possible. Other websites you could use include USFreeAds, Ooodle and Yahoo Classifieds. There are many more if you have a trawl around the internet, but these are among the most popular.
Bear in mind, though, that not all of these websites will allow HTML and/or anchor text. On some websites you may have to use a raw site URL or some other method of inputting your website address.
Like many Web 2.0 marketing techniques, this method will require regular attention to be effective. For all websites, check to see how long ads stay live for so you can come back and renew them. It is best to keep them live and near the top of the listings as much as possible. It is also probably a good idea to rewrite your ads from time to time. Once your ads are written and you are registered with the various classifieds websites you want to use, this shouldn't eat into too much of your time each week.
