Use Content to Promote Yourself in the Web 2.0 World

Use Content to Promote Yourself in the Web 2.0 WorldThe internet changes every day. Those who keep track of these changes prosper but those who sit back and rest on their laurels will quickly fall behind and lose their competitive edge.

And so it is with Web 2.0 promotions. Even just a year ago marketing successfully in the Web 2.0 world required different methods and knowledge than what you need to be successful today.

That said, there are some internet marketing techniques that are as effective now as they were a few years ago. One of these is content contribution and that is what we are going to focus on in this article. Successful website promotion on today's internet involves content contribution to traditional article submission websites while also using newer Web 2.0 websites. So, here are some tips.

Start off with the more traditional methods. Write, or have written, a few articles and submit them to popular article directories like EzineArticles and ArticleCity. These will allow you to put some details about yourself and a backlink in a resource box at the bottom of your article.

In the past you could submit the same article to scores of directories and get credited by the search engines for each backlink. Unfortunately, not any more. Search engines now recognize duplicate content so you will only get credit for one backlink. To get around this you will need to rewrite each article so you have a number of unique versions.

When you have submitted your articles it is time to move on to some press releases. Write a few press releases related to your website and submit them to free PR directories such as PRNDirect, I-Newswire, and BetaNews.

Once this is done, you can move onto explore the content contribution opportunities of the Web 2.0 world. A good place to start is on Squidoo. Create a few lenses (pages) with your articles linking back to your website.

Now, trawl through the web and find five popular blogs and five popular forums related to your niche. Regularly visit these and leave relevant and useful posts and comments with keyword anchor text linking to one of your articles, press releases or directly to your website.

Writing articles, press releases and other content can be a time consuming business. Unless you have a flair for writing and enjoy it, you may want to consider outsourcing this work so you can concentrate on your website. There are many good writers available of freelancing websites like Elance and GetAFreelancer, that won't break the bank
