You can no longer use the excuse that setting up a blog is too hard. Plenty of blogging software is available easily, and mostly free, taking the guesswork out of blog-building.
Today, assembling a blog is simple. What's even more important, and much harder, is marketing your blog. To be successful, you must strengthen your marketing ability.
You might be able to entice visitors to your website initially, but how will you keep them coming back for more. Successful blog marketing helps you get higher search engine rankings, gain valuable links and increase the traffic to your site.
Use to following tips to get your blog on the right marketing track.
Tip #1- RSS Your Blog
Just because your blog is live, don't assume visitors know about it. Imagine your blog is a nice sized chalk board sitting in your basement. How do you get it out of the basement and onto the sidewalk? That's where RSS feeds come into play. RSS simply allows others to syndicate content from your blog to their blog or website. Using RSS feeds to promote your blog is an effective way to get your content noticed.
Tip #2- Update Your Blog
This should go without saying but it's absolutely imperative. Don’t underestimate the importance of updating your blog and don’t make false promises to your readers.
If you know you won't be able to update your blog everyday, don’t make the promise up front. It's exciting to start a blog. But this beginner excitement can make you overconfident. Life happens so be flexible. We're creatures of habit. We notice when something doesn't happen when we expect it to. Your readers will get a good idea of how often you post and will come to expect updates.
That's why it's so important to plan ahead. Going on vacation in a week? Let everyone know ahead of time. They'll appreciate your openness and you'll have something to share when you get back.
Tip #3- Leave Comments on Other Blogs
Visit other, relevant blogs. These blogs will also be reaching your target audience. However, remember to tread lightly. Blatant advertising will ruin your reputation. Also, don't entice visitors to your site by bad mouthing other blog owners.
Let the link in your signature speak for itself. If you ask smart questions and give great advice in return to other questions, visitors will come to your site.
