How to Catch People's Attention with Web 2.0 Advertising

How to Catch People's Attention with Web 2.0 AdvertisingWith Web 2.0 media drawing the attention of millions of viewers online, advertisers are scrambling at the opportunity to reach these users with their advertising. Unfortunately, many advertisers are having difficulty getting exposure on social media websites.

On average, an American views approximately 3,000 ads each day. These 3,000 ads include television ads, radio ads, billboards, ads in the paper or magazine, and of course ads on the internet. Despite viewing around 3,000 ads each day, very few of those ads are even noticed or comprehended by people. Of course, if you want to be successful, you have to be able to catch viewers.

As mentioned above, very few of those 3,000 ads each day are noticed. But you want to put emphasis on the words "very few", which does not mean none of the ads are recognized. If you can come up with a fresh and enticing ad, chances are it will get noticed and gain some recognition on the internet. So how do you get noticed?

A majority of the people using web 2.0 sites are looking for entertainment. Sites like Facebook and MySpace are far from sites that attract the typical person looking to fill out surveys. Therefore, make your ad as creative as possible. Whether it is with a funny rhyme or a video that catches the viewer’s attention, you have to make it stand out.

The great thing about web 2.0 advertising is that you get to branch out and use all different kinds of advertising techniques. You want to use video, audio, and even plain text. Because you have the ability to use all of these different kinds of advertising, try to make it as interactive as possible. If you can grab the viewer’s attention and get them to click buttons and proceed through an ad, you will have reeled them.

The last thing you want to look at is if you are targeting the message to the right people. Think about what kind of web site you have and who you are trying to get to come to your site.

After you have identified the type of audience you want to attract, next look at what kind of an ad will interest this audience. If you are trying to reel in a younger audience, having a bland ad with text probably will not get the job done. But if you are going for an older and more mature audience, having a flashing ad will only irritate the viewer.

If you want to be successful with web 2.0 advertising, take the time to look at what other people’s ads look like and see what interests you and what irritates you. Then apply what you learn with the target audience you are trying to reach.
