Managing Multiple Blogs Successfully

Realizing the tremendous potential of blogging, many businesses have developed multiple blogs to promote multiple product lines.

Managing Multiple Blogs SuccessfullyWhile this is great way to segment product lines, you must take extra care to ensure the blog content is original.

What's the best way to do this? If you have employees, assign a blog to different employees, preferably employees who are familiar with each specific blog topic. If you don't have employees, you'll have to create the separation on paper and in your mind.

Dedicating time to work on each blog and keeping all blogs up to date are the two fundamental techniques that will help you juggle multiple blogs successfully.

Dedicating Time for Each Blog

Maintaining a blog requires time and commitment. Bloggers who desire to maintain multiple blogs need to ensure that they budget their time carefully and allocate sufficient time to each of their blogs. Each blog is equally important and should not be neglected. Bad time management can lead to neglecting one or more of the blogs, resulting in poor blog performance.

Rank each blog in order of complexity — the least complex first. Publish each blog starting with the easiest. If you run out of time, at least you'll have your first blog updated. If you start with the hardest blog, you'll end up spending all your effort on it.

Another technique is to setup a content calendar. In blog terms, a content calendar will show you the blog's subject, or content, each posting day. Instead of groping for topics each day, a quality content calendar will show you exactly what you need to blog.

If all else fails, and you can't manage everything, eliminate a blog. Spending more time on maintaining fewer blogs is far more effective than mismanaging a bunch of blogs.

Keep Your Blogs Up to Date

Real blog value is directly proportional to the content as well as the content date. Having quality content is a good thing. Having quality, updated content is even better. Something useful I learned playing sports is worth repeating here: You're only as good, or bad, as your last performance. This is highly relevant to your blog. You're only as good as your last post.

And the longer the distant between posts, the older, and less meaningful, your content becomes.

The key to successfully maintaining multiple blogs is to start with a single blog. Once you have a handle on one blog, add another. Repeat the process until you've reached your goals.
