The Importance of Having a Technology Plan

If you wish to secure technology funding for your organization you will need to have a technology plan. However, this is just one benefit. A good technology plan will save money, help your organization run more efficiently, and reach its goals more quickly.

The Importance of Having a Technology PlanIf you plan to apply for technology funding a technology plan is essential. Any funder will want to see what technology you have in place, how it is being used and how it is benefited your organization and brought it closer to its goals. Of course, any funder will also want to know how you plan to use any new technology that you acquire and how this will help the organization accomplish its mission.

Keeping a technology plan is also a good way to keep up with the latest trends and products. This should help your organization stay focused on its needs and pinpoint any new technologies that will benefit it. This may also impress potential funders when you submit funding applications.

It follows on from this, that when it comes to buying new software and equipment you will be able to buy the equipment best suited to your needs at the best prices available.

When it comes down to it, technology is an essential requirement for any organization in one form or another. The better this technology is managed, the more efficiently the organization will run. A good technology plan will help the organization get the most from its staff and help avoid the constant technical problems and systems failures that plague many organizations.

When drawing up a technology plan it is good to aim high while keeping your goals achievable. Concentrate on the next step your organization can take from a technology point of view that will move it forward and help it achieve its goals.

Most likely achieving this will involve finding technology funding from somewhere. However, don't let this top you from making preparations and putting your plan into action where possible. For example, if the next step involves one of your staff learning database management, there is no reason why this task can't be designated and initial training can't begin.

If funders see that you are taking a pro-active approach by putting your technology plan into action, you are in with a much better chance of getting funding. In the meantime, you can be happy that your organization is moving in the right direction.
