5 Reasons An Education Gap Still Exists

Despite the ongoing concern of leaving kids behind, there still remains an education gap. Whether we like it or not, there are still those who have an opportunity to get an education and those who do not. Some of the reasons simply cannot be fixed but others have the potential of being corrected. Here are 5 reasons education gap still exists in society.

5 Reasons An Education Gap Still ExistsLocation

Where a person lives can be a significant factor on whether or not a child has an opportunity to further their education. Living in a rough neighborhood increases the chances of kids joining gangs or getting into trouble. While not everyone can live in the perfect neighborhood with lots of money, there are more opportunities in private and charter schools today than in years past.

Income

As mentioned above, not everyone is fortunate enough to be raised in a wealthy family. Unfortunately, there is an education gap between those with money and those without it. It becomes quite costly to put a child through college or a trade school. Even high school can be expensive nowadays.

Loans

Loans are a big part of many student lives when it comes to getting a college degree. However, it is amazing how many loans have to do with the parents as oppose to the student. Because of this, bad credit from parents can ruin the chance of a student getting a loan from any bank or provider.

Language Barriers

Many countries are becoming more diverse as time goes on. The United States continues to expand with immigrants from all over the world, as does parts of Europe and Asia. This certainly brings a language barrier into play. Although it can be difficult, there are ways around this challenge. But the fact that it presents a problem brings up the education gap.

Minorities

The education system seems to be overlooking the fact that minorities represent the fastest growing population. The system focuses primarily on the majority while leaving out the minority and the lower income families. Everything from giving out more financial aid to supporting the majority far more plays into the education gap from minorities.

The education gap continues to grow at a rapid pace regardless of what the educational system seems to do. While part has to do with the system and what it is doing to help, there are a number of other factors that have everything to do with society. From income to location, there are a number of factors that contribute to the education gap our society faces today.
